OpenAI has secured $11 billion in new funding at a valuation of $1.25 trillion, marking the initial portion of a larger financing round that falls short of the company’s original fundraising target of up to $30 billion, according to a Reuters report citing unnamed sources. AI investments The sources added that the company's valuation has fallen from the $1.5 trillion it had initially sought for the financing round. SoftBank Group and Abu Dhabi-based technology investment company MGX reportedly participated in the funding. The latest funding comes amid a cooling in investor sentiment toward artificial intelligence companies. Some investors were valuing rival AI developer Anthropic's planned initial public offering (IPO) at approximately $1.5 trillion, down from earlier expectations of around $2 trillion, according to Reuters. The changing valuations reflect increased scrutiny of the AI sector as investors assess the substantial capital required to develop computing infrastructure and whether companies can generate sufficient returns from their investments."Investors are increasingly questioning whether the AI investment boom can continue supporting elevated valuations without clearer evidence of improving profitability and cash flow," said Daniela Hathorn, senior market analyst at Capital.com. Previous funding roundThe latest financing follows a major funding round announced by OpenAI in March 2026. On March 31, the company said it had raised $122 billion in committed capital at a post-money valuation of $852 billion. The ChatGPT-maker said the funding would support its next phase of AI development and expansion, including its research, products, and computing infrastructure. Recent partnership Last week, ADNOC announced a multi-year partnership with OpenAI and G42 at ADIPEC 2026 to deploy advanced AI agents across its operations, aiming to improve decision-making, operational efficiency, and coordination throughout the energy value chain. The partnership will use OpenAI's advanced AI models, supported by UAE-based computing infrastructure, to connect operational and commercial decisions across ADNOC's businesses.Interconnected AI agents will assess the commercial implications of operational decisions and market opportunities across production, processing, refining, logistics, sales, and trading.Net worth Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, has a real time net worth of $3.1 billion as of November 7, according to Forbes.
